The Kootenay Rockies region is located in the southeast corner of British Columbia. The region borders the province of Alberta and the U.S. border, and includes four national parks – Yoho, Kootenay, Mount Revelstoke and Glacier as well as over 75 provincial parks. The Rocky Mountains rise in parallel with the ranges of the Purcell, Selkirk and Monashee (Columbia Mountains). The region covers 58,000 square kilometres of the province.
The Kootenay Rockies region is home to six wonderful hot springs resorts: Ainsworth (Nelson), Canyon (Revelstoke), Fairmont (Invermere), Halcyon (Nakusp), Nakusp and Radium Hot Springs. All are open year-round with the exception of Canyon Hot Springs Resort which operates seasonally: June to mid-September. Natural mineral hot springs soothe, inspire and rejuvenate.
Outdoor adventures in the Kootenay Rockies are epic. The area is one of Canada’s pre-eminent destinations for hiking, mountain biking and whitewater rafting. The many spectacular golf courses are all about mountain views, rugged topography and beautiful golf holes. The birth of heli-skiing took place in the Kootenay Rockies as was snowcat skiing, and the region boasts 8 alpine resorts and many more winter experiences.
