In 2011, Wilbert & Joka Borren bought a 17-acres vineyard property on the Upper Bench Road in Penticton. With no experience in viticulture, but a fierce determination to learn, they began the journey. Luckily they didn’t have to go it alone. They reached out to others already established in the wine industry, forging relationships with mentors and friends who were eager to share their knowledge. Their 4 sons worked alongside their parents and together they revived the property. Four acres of neglected vines in the upper vineyard were rejuvenated which expanded the vineyard to a total of 12 acres. The varietals grown are Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Zweigelt, Pinot Noir and Merlot.

For 6 years the family focused on growing the grapes for other wineries, carefully honing their craft. They grew in knowledge and the vineyard became a respected source of premium grapes.

But in 2017 it was time to take the next step. It was time to make their own wine. As a tribute to the hard work and dedication of their 4 sons, they named their winery “Four Shadows Vineyard & Winery”.

Since the opening of their tasting room in 2019, Four Shadows Vineyard & Winery has flourished. The winery’s success has been made possible by the tireless work of a dedicated team that returns season after season. These individuals, just as passionate as the owners, help make every wine tasting a special experience. And while the sons have all moved on to pursue their own careers, the couple remains deeply involved in every aspect of the business, overseeing the vineyard and winery with the same hands-on approach that started it all.

From April to October, visitors can come and enjoy wine tastings in the inviting tasting room or on the outdoor patio while taking in the stunning views of the vineyard. It’s the perfect way to experience the wines made from estate-grown grapes, every bottle a testament to the story of perseverance, community, and the enduring love of family and friends.
